Chandigarh, July 2, 2019: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh for ailing eminent Punjabi novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal, who is suffering from age related illness.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that Captain Amarinder had directed the Deputy Commissioner to personally hand over the amount to the family of the novelist at his native village Dhudike in Moga. He also directed the district administration to ensure the best possible medical care and treatment for Kanwal.

Kanwal, who has made seminal contribution to Punjabi literature by penning nearly 100 books including several novels, had turned 100 last Thursday.

Wishing him speedy recovery, the Chief Minister noted that the litterateur had dedicated his life to the promotion of his mother tongue, giving insights into the rural life and oppressed sections of the society.
