Ludhiana, July 6, 2018: Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Dr.Shena Aggarwal has banned the sale and breeding of Magur fish (also spelled as mangoor) in the district (excluding areas under Police Commissionerate).
As per the ban orders issued under 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, some anti-social people smuggle this fish, which is harmful to our health, from other countries for meager financial gains. This fish preys on its own breed and also harms village ponds and animals. For Indian fishes, this fish is very harmful and if it mixes with our natural waters, it can be very harmful to other insects and fishes living in water. That is why the sale and breeding of Magur fish has been banned.
These orders will remain enforced till September 6.
