International Conference on Bariatric (Weight-loss) Surgery to be held in DMCH

Ludhiana, May 11, 2018: In view of this rising obesity epidemic ,Dayanand Medical College & Hospital is organising an International conference & Live operative Workshop on Bariatric Surgery to train more & more surgeons in Bariatric surgery on 21-22 May2018. The conference will comprise of most reputed bariatric surgeons of the country & from overseas said Dr Ashish Ahuja Bariatric surgeon of DMCH & organising secretary of the coference at DMCH. Around 10 patients will be operated by the DMCH team along with other faculty members on one day said Dr P.S Nain Professor of Surgery & Organising Chairman.

According to Dr Ashish Ahuja, Obesity is rising on an Alarming rise in our country & our state Punjab is leading the race in obesity. Lack of excercise ,rising stress levels ,rising inflation & low GDP , facilities,lifestyle ,lack of awareness of bad effects of obesity these are a few factors which contribute to the present state.

Dr Laurent Layani from U.A.E a noted french surgeon ,Dr Robert Rutledge ,Dr Maffazal Lakdawala who has operated the worlds heaviest women & many ministers & celebrities ,would be the lead faculties during the conference .Surgeons from Ludhiana surgical forum & Delhi ,Mumbai & other parts of the country would be attending the live operative workshop & conference.

Dr PS Nain said a special obesity Run or a mini marathon is also organised on 22nd May at 6 :00 am which is part of this international conference & the deputy commisioner of Ludhiana Mr Pradeep Aggarwal along with chief cardiologist & Vice Principle of DMCH Dr G.S Wander would flag off the obesity run, which is organised by the Youth club of DMC on this occasion from Sutluj club to the DMCH college campus which will be welcomed by Mr Balkar Sing Sandhu the Mayor of Ludhiana who would be giving the Medals to the students.

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta has approved a special discounted cost of Bariatric surgery for this conference for patients who cannot afford this surgery so that maximum young surgeons & patients can make use of this opportunity. Dr Sandeep Puri Principal said during this conference special courses on Bariatric Anaesthesia by Dept.of Anaesthesia & Special Bariatric Dietician course are organized for the first time in the region.
