Ludhiana, December 31, 2016: The official website of the ASHA CHINH Welfare Society was launched today with a message of social welfare through children education and road safety. ASHA CHINH (Aaftaab Society of Hope and Aid to Children Needing Help) has been established by the parents and friends of Aaftaab Chawla, who lost his life in a car accident last year. Dr. Rajinder Chawla, father of Aaftaab, announced the objectives and various programs being undertaken by the society, the two major thrust areas being education of under- privileged children, and road safety.
Regarding education, the various programmes launched are: Sponsorship of students (SOS), ASHA CHINH advance scholarship schemes (AAS-1 and AAS-2) and Become a Volunteer (BAV).
Under SOS program, about 15 poor children have been adopted in the current year in different schools and are being supported for school fee, books, uniforms, etc. A projector (with screen) was also donated to Satya Bharti School, Hussainpura for making their teaching more effective and interactive sessions were held with children. Food packets were distributed among children in different schools from time to time under the “spreading smiles mission”. The program would prove very useful in saving children from falling prey to child labour or begging. The society endeavours to adopt more students in the coming year.
ASHA-CHINH Advance Scholarship programs (AAS-1 and AAS-2) have been designed to promote and support higher education among poor deserving students. Brilliant students will be awarded scholarships purely on merit basis until the completion of secondary education up to class XII (AAS-1) and graduation degree (AAS-2). The amount of scholarship is Rs. 20,000/= or $400/= per annum for AAS-1 and Rs. 75000/= or $1500/= per annum. A joint or partial sponsorship may also be opted for.
Road Safety - Dr. Chawla informed that a meeting was held with Mr.Dhruv Dahia (ADCP) and Dr.Sachin Gupta (ACP) traffic police, Ludhiana and various programs were chalked out under the Road Safety Campaign, to be carried out in the city. Some of these include holding awareness seminars/lectures in schools and colleges, sponsoring reflector drive and helmet drive. An annual inter-school quiz on road safety will be organized, along with Annual Award for Good Samaritans, for persons/organisations contributing in a significant way to road safety.
Become a Volunteer (BAV) program is a motivational drive to be carried out in order to associate more and more dynamic and spirited people with the activities of Asha Chinh Welfare Society. The volunteer force will be motivated to create outreach movements and participate in road safety drives, teach in ASHA CHINH schools for poor children and monitor the overall progress of children being supported by the society, along with educating their parents about topics related to health, nutrition and immunization of children.
