Ludhiana, January 29, 2013: On the occasion of entering into the 150th year of its inception the Directorate of Printing/Government of India Press has organised a two days National Conference, Annual Award Presentation at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi recently.

The Conference was inaugurated by Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Kamal Nath in the presence of MOS for Urban Development Deepa Dasmunsi.

Dr. Ashok Singhvi, Joint Secretary (UD), A.K. Sinha, Director (Printing) and other dignitaries such as M.J. Singh, ex-Director (Printing); V.N. Chabbra, Country Head NPES; Kamal Chopra, GS Offset Printers Association; B.S. Mohammad Yasin IPS, Managing Director, Kerala Books and Publications Society; Lakshmi Priya Professor and Head, Department of Printing Technology Avinashilingam University and others dignitaries from State Government Presses and Members of Associations, General Managers, Managers of the Government of India Presses were present.

In her address, MOS (UD) appreciated the silent work of the Press employees and their patience for working under duress sometimes to meet out time challenges. She assured for all possible expansion of the Government of India Presses by optimum utilisation of resources available with the presses for up gradation of existing technology with the latest globally available technology including digital technology to improve the existing facility and to reduce the cost and multi-colour print. She appreciated the task of uploading the Gazette Notification simultaneously by the Directorate of Printing.

After the inaugural function, luminaries of the print industry presented their views. Kamal Chopra, General Secretary, Offset Printers Association highlighted the need for the training in the printing from the childhood itself to make the generations aware about the print technology. He also stressed that instead of putting up institutes for producing students for white collar jobs the actual operators are required to be produced by the institutes. The conference was concluded with the concluding remarks of Dr. Ashok Singhvi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development. The MOS (UD) has also honoured the distinguished guests from the printing fraternity by presenting Shawl and Coconut. Kamal Chopra was also felicitated for his contribution towards printing and packaging industry of India.
