Wheat Procurement Touches 88 LMT In Punjab

Chandigarh/ Bathinda, April 26, 2016: Over 88 LMT wheat has been procured in Punjab till date while Bathinda alone procured about 5.20 LMT of wheat till last evening.
Giving details of the procurement done in Punjab, an official spokesman of the government said that out of 88.72 LMT wheat procured, various agencies procured 87.35 LMT and the traders could procure 1.36 LMT. The spokesman also said that Pungrain procured 17.80 LMT, Markfed 18.17 LMT, Punsup 16.61 LMT, PSWC 12.55 LMT, PAIC 8.52 LMT and FCI procured 13.66 LMT.
The food and civil supplies department through its agencies has made a fervent appeal to all the farmers to bring dry clean and fully matured wheat to the mandis. The concerned officers have also been directed to ensure good quality sturdy gunny bags with accurate weight would be ensured while packing the produce and they have been especially asked to visit the mandis during the procurement and ensure smooth operations.
Referring to the procurements and payments made in district Bathinda Mandis for the wheat procured till date, the spokesman said that total transactions worth Rs. 659.25 has been made for more than 5.20 LMT of wheat procured in Bathinda. Giving the agency wise transactions, the spokesman said that total amount of Rs. 139.80 crore was electronically transferred for the farmers’ produce procured by Pungrain. Similarly for procured wheat by Markfed amount worth Rs. 160.37 crore has been online transferred. Punsup given Rs. 136.99 crore whereas PSWC got Rs. 99.25 transferred. An amount of Rs. 60.95 crore was electronically transferred to the PAIC, he added. The spokesman also said that an amount of Rs. 61.89 crore was paid for the wheat procured by the FCI. The spokesman also said that as per the three tier mechanism the officers would personally visit the grain markets under their jurisdiction for monitoring the progress of ongoing wheat procurement on the daily basis.
Many of the commission agents have expressed their satisfaction over the online transferring of the money for the wheat procured in Bathinda. One Mr. Tarsem Kumar Commission agent from Bucho Mandi (9417138794) said that since Friday all the payments were being regularly made. Rubbishing all reports of delay in payments, he said that most of the farmers who have sold their crop were satisfied with the transparent online transaction system.
