Ludhiana, October 29, 2019: State Vigilance Bureau today nabbed Junior Engineer (JE) of PSPCL red handed while accepting bribe of Rs.20,000.
Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Paviter Singh JE posted at PSPCL Sub-division Beeja, Ludhiana district has been nabbed red handed on the complaint of Paramjeet Singh, resident of Guru Harkrishan Nagar, Malerkotla.
The complaint has approached the VB and alleged that the above said JE was demanding Rs.50,000 for installation of his electricity meter but the deal was struck at Rs. 40,000.
After verifying his information, a Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused JE arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 20,000 as a first installment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ludhiana and further investigation was under progress.

Chandigarh, October 29, 2019: In a bid to eradicate corruption from the society, Punjab Vigilance Bureau today observed vigilance awareness week at Punjab Vigilance Bhawan, S.A.S. Nagar where ADGP-cum-Chief Director Vigilance Bureau BK Uppal administered oath to all officials to eradicate corruption from the state.
While addressing the gathering, VB Chief Director said it is our moral duty to aware people about their rights. "In the current scenario, our job has increased tremendously and we should use this challenge as an opportunity to raise public awareness towards the policy of achieving transparency, accountability and corruption free governance", he added.
He informed that during this week, Bureau would run an awareness campaign across the state especially in educational institutes through various modes to make youth aware about the ill effects of corruption. Besides, public would be informed about the efforts being made by state vigilance bureau in preventing corruption in public offices. "During this week, VB would engage with students through declamations and competitions to make them strong to stand against this evil firmly" he said.
VB chief further added that the vigilance awareness week is being observed with the theme "Integrity - A way of life". He said during this week our focus would be on prevention side and creating awareness in society. He stated that apart from this, VB would identify those groups who were generally blamed for engaging in corruption and guide them to make some changes in their working.
