The National Mediation and Negotiation Competition 2018 aims to provide a platform to the young students to enhance the skills pertaining to alternate dispute resolution. This competition will inculcate the spirit of resolving disputes through the means of mediation and negotiation, which is the need of the hour, considering the ever mounting pending litigation in the courts.
The participants will be judged on their communication skills, their relationship with the opposite party and the mediator and their ingenuity of ideas for possible solutions. The event seeks to provide an opportunity for valuable educational and cultural interchange between students, law academicians, legal practitioners and jurists.
The propositions for the National Mediation and Negotiation Competition, 2018 will be based on Medical Negligence, Family law, Torts, Contract and the Consumer Protection Act.
The format of the competition requires a team of 3 participants (Mediator, Counselor and Client) to participate, where the mediator is expected to elicit the information about the situation, play the role of a neutral party and facilitate the clients to reach a common solution. The client and counselor are required to negotiate and put forth their grievances. The students are evaluated on the basis of specific criteria that emphasize the use of skills such as listening, questioning, planning, and analytically deducing the problem and providing solutions of the same.
