UIET, PU wins Smart India Hackathon

Chandigarh, April 13, 2019: The team consisting of five B.E. Information Technology students namely Rudransh Srivastava (team leader), SarthakPrajapati, Shaleen Ahuja, SanskritiGoel and Sarthak Gupta and one B.E. CSE student namely Himani Chopra from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University was declared as the winner for the problem statement given by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during the Smart India
Nation-wide Hackathon organised by the AICTE, and MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC). It is an initiative of Government of India to generate innovative ideas for solving problems of various sectors.
The third edition of Smart India Hackathon was held on 2nd-3rd March, 2019 at 48 different nodal centres across the country. A total of 2 lakh students from NITs, IITs and CFIs had participated in the competition, 6000 of which were shortlisted for the finale, and ultimately 230 teams (6 members each) were declared winners.
Eight teams were selected for the Grand Finale round from UIET, Panjab University.
The team is awarded a prize money of Rs. 1 Lakh. The Video Conference application developed by UIET’s winning team is not only efficient in terms of speed and quality but also ensures data privacy of Indian users.
This wonderful feat is achieved under the able mentorship of Prof.Krishan Kumar, Co-ordinator-IT, UIET and Ms. Rajkumari, Asst. Professor-IT, UIET and overall guidance of Prof. Savita Gupta, Director, UIET.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor Panjab University, congratulated the team and further motivated them by ensuring allotment of space and other infrastructure within the Panjab University for pursuing the winning idea as a start-up.
