UGI organised workshop on “solution of stubble burning issue of North India”
Mohali, November 28, 2019: UGI organised workshop on Solution of Stubble Burning Issues of North India in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kurali. Chief Guest of the event was Dr.Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK, Kurali. Dr.Vikas, Assistant Professor, GADVASU and Dr.Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor, GADVASU were Guest of honour. Chief Guest Dr.Yashwant Singh highlighted the importance, advantages and disadvantages of crop residue for farmer, human health and environment. He also highlighted about the importance of crop residue management for agriculture. Speech, Poster Making and Slogan writing competitions were also organised regarding to crop residue management with their talent and creativity. Dr.Gurpreet Singh Chairman, UGI while motivating the students said that paddy was introduced in Punjab during the early years of the green revolution and reduce the food deficit in the country. Consequently, as food security became the focus of policy planning, no heed was paid to the damage caused to the natural eco-system of the state by the proliferating land area under paddy cultivation. He further added that we should not Burn Stubble otherwise, we have to pay high for it later. According to him this is high time to understand its consequences. Speech competition was won by Evan Mondal whereas in poster making competition first position was bagged by Abhay. Slogan Writing Competition was bagged by Yabi Makcha.
