British Army recalls valour and gallantry of Sikh worriers

Ferozepur, December 12, 2019: Commemorating the valour and gallantry of 21 Sikh warriors of Saragarhi battle, a delegation of British army on Thursday visited Saragarhi memorial complex, Ferozepur and recalled the mighty battle fought in 1897 between the British Indian Empire and Afghan tribesman in the North-West Frontier Province, now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.

The delegation led by Brigadier Celia Jane Harvey and comprising Captain Craig Bickerton, Captain Jagjeet Singh Sohal and warrant officer Ashok Chauhan, is on a week-long trip to India.

The delegation was received by the district administration Ferozepur and SDM Kuldeep Bawa welcomed the members of British Army.

Interacting with the media at Saragarhi memorial complex, Brigadier Celia Jane Harvey said that the delegation was visiting Ferozepur to pay tribute to 21 heroes who laid their lives while fighting with the mighty force Afghan tribesmen.

We are overwhelmed with the warm reception by Ferozepur district administration here adding she said that it was a wonderful opportunity to experience more of Sikh culture, Sikh faith and Sikh traditions.

She called the tour an education one as it provided them the opportunity to have in-depth knowledge regarding the heroes of Saragarhi. Recalling the Battle of Saragarhi, She said they remember the tremendous battle in which 21 warriors fought against impossible odds till their last breath.

Indian origin captain of British army Jagjeet Singh Sohal said that they were visiting the historic memorial of Saragarhi to connect with the shared history and values of both the sides. Captain Jagjeet Singh Sohal further added that the remembrance of 21 Sikh heroes of Saragarhi battle is celebrated in South hall, a town in London. He said that yesterday, the delegation visited the Golden Temple to learn about the customs, culture and history of Sikhs.

The delegation was accompanied by members of the Saragarhi Foundation Inc, comprising Chairman Gurinderpal Singh Josan, President Brig Kuldip Singh Kahlon, Vice President Gurbhej Singh Tibbi and other prominent persons.
