Trials for various Sports Wings and Academies in the state being held at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana on Wednesday.
Ludhiana, March 6, 2013: 1,052 budding players (779 boys and 273 girls) from Ludhiana, Roop Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa and Mohali were participated in the trials for various Sports Wings and Academies in the state at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana.
According to Kartar Singh Sehamby, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, the games included in these trials were Athletics (98+60), Boxing (91+16), Badminton (32+23), Basketball (60+21), Cycling (08+03), Football (110), Gymnastics (Artistic and Rhythmic) (11+15), Judo (39+13), Handball (74+10), Kabaddi (30+08), Table Tennis (05+08), Volley Ball (86+61), Weight Lifting(14+03) and Wrestling (121+32).
Players will be selected by the experts of different committees constituted by Punjab sports Department for the final selection. Final selection will be made tomorrow.
The selected stuff will get Rs. 200 per player per day diet for residential wing and Rs. 100 per player per day for day scholars and will be placed at the sports centre equipped with all modern facilities of their choiced wings in the state for training.
S.L. Lotey, Deputy Director Sports, Punjab also visited the trials arena and expressed satisfaction for the arrangements made by the host and gave directions for the final selection.
