Chandigarh, April 4, 2016: Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has determined generic tariff for power projects using Municipal Solid Waste as fuel. The Local Government Minister, Sh.Anil Joshi has appreciated this move as it will help Urban Local Bodies to dispose its waste scientifically. The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has fixed generic tariff for municipal solid waste mass burning and refuse derived fuel (RDF) based Power Projects. This power tariff will be applicable for 20 years period. The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission also has directed PSPCL to procure all power offered to it from such projects as specified rates. The generic tariff for mass burning based projects is fixed at Rs. 6.50/ kWh and for RDF based power projects at Rs. 7.59 /kWh.
Mr Joshi said that Urban areas of Punjab produce around 4100 tonns of municipal waste every day and scientific disposal is currently utmost priority of Local Government Department. Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) under the aegis of Local Government Department is the nodal agency to implement municipal solid waste management programme; has played a crucial role for fixation of this power tariff. Local Government Minister asserts that fixed tariff will enhance the prospects of involving private entities providing state of the art engineering solution on “waste to energy” in department’s endeavour on scientific management of municipal waste.
