Ludhiana, April 30, 2024: The absentee voters on essential services in Ludhiana, who will not be able to cast their vote at polling station due to their official duty on polling day, can avail the facility of postal ballot and cast their votes at the designated centres on May 26, 27 and 28.

The nodal officers of various departments for absentee voters on essential services were explained by election office that an absentee voter is someone who works in an "essential service," as declared by the Election Commission. Essential service voters can choose to vote via postal ballot, and this includes employees of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Food Corporation of India, All India Radio, Doordarshan, Post and Telegraph, Railways, BSNL, Power, Health, Fire Services, and Civil Aviation who are on duty. Additionally, Media Persons, who are authorised by ECI, can also use this option.

Those interested in postal ballot voting have to submit Form-12D with their respective departments before May 9. Media Persons authorised by ECI can deposit the forms with the District Public Relations Officer. Once the forms are received, voters will be informed about the postal ballot voting centres where they can cast their vote from 9 am to 5 pm on May 26, 27, and 28. Those eligible to cast postal votes should bring a valid identity card on these days.

Any voter opting for the postal ballot facility won’t be able to cast a normal vote at Polling Station on June 1.
