Ludhiana, 20th October 2014: The 49TH Annual Conference of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSICON 2014) which concluded on October 20 at PGIMER Chandigarh was attended by more than 3000 Plastic Surgeons from India and abroad. Dr Ashish Gupta, Consultant Plastic Surgeon from SPS Apollo Hospitals Ludhiana presented his work on 656 patients of injuries on the face, focusing on the most disfiguring eyelid injuries due to road traffic accidents operated over the last 3 years.
Dr. Gupta emphasised the need for immediate surgical repair of eyelid injuries for best functional and aesthetic results. The number of patients with road traffic accidents keeps increasing every year, and a disturbing trend of increasing pediatric injuries has put the onus on the plastic surgeons to restore the normal look to these children. He also stressed on maintaining detailed patient surgical records and also photographs for medicolegal as well as patient awareness purposes. His work was appreciated by the audience of eminent plastic & cosmetic surgeons. The conference theme for the year 2014 was Demystifying Plastic Surgery and was aimed at sharing of professional experiences and brining awareness about the vast variety of procedures done by plastic surgeons though out the country.
