CPI expresses serious concern over failure of MCL to provide required safety gadgets to safai workers

Ludhiana, January 14, 2014: The Communist Party of India expresses serious concern at the failure of the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana to provide required safety gadgets to the safai workers particularly those going inside the manholes. Sending a person in the manhole should be completely prohibited and only the machinery should be used for this work. But if at any stage this may be most urgent the person going down should be provided with gas mask and clothing which cover the body completely without exposing even a single part of the body. The workers carrying out roadside cleaning work should also be provided with gloves, masks and gum boots so as to prevent them from any infection.
The workers should be subjected to yearly health checkups and free medical aid.
