Indian Institute of Architects forms its student wing

Indian Institute of Architects, Chandigarh Punjab Chapter on Sunday organising a meeting at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, November 23, 2014: Indian Institute of Architects, Chandigarh Punjab Chapter organised a meeting at Ludhiana on Sunday. IIA decided to launch its first student wing. Chandigarh and Punjab has 13 architecture schools comprising 2800 students at the undergraduate level. Newly constituted student’s wing will work under IIA and promote the profession at state level. It is named as Students of Indian Institute of Architects (SIIA).
Students have taken pledge to document the heritage of Punjab and play pivotal role in serving the society by organising blood donation camps, exhibitions, research and development activities in the state of Punjab. Student leaders from all over Punjab came to attend the meeting. Mainly students of Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar), Lovely Professional University (Phagwara), Giani Zail Singh College (Bathinda) and Chandigarh University attended the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Ar.Surinder Bahga, Editor, Journal of IIA. From IIA-LC, the meeting was attended by Ar. Sanjay Goel (Chairman, IIA-LC), Ar. Rajan Tangri (Group Coordinator & Administrator), Ar. Harpreet Dhillon (Treasurer), Ar. Yogesh Singla (Joint Secretary) and Ar. Amit Sanyal (Executive Member).
In addition to the establishment of Student Wing, Architects discussed city issues and demanded that they should be involved in decision making process of Ludhiana City as far as its infrastructure is concerned. Architects cited the example of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation where one Architect is nominated as Councilor in corporation. Our country and city has enough talent to solve urban issues of Ludhiana. There is no point in inviting multinational companies from abroad as they hardly understand local issues.
