Chandigarh, December 2, 2015: The Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission has issued directions to the Punjab Government to ensure that in case of the non- availability of candidates from Sub-Categories of Scheduled Caste for e.g. Ex- Serviceman and Sportspersons, the posts must be reverted and filled from amongst the candidates of Scheduled Caste category as per the directions of Welfare Department.
The Chairman of the SC Commission, Mr. Rajesh Bagha said that the Commission has received numerous complaints that instead of filling the vacancies reserved for sub-quota as per the guidelines of the various departments, it is generally preferred to keep the posts vacant which results in injustice to the SC category candidates. He said that it has also come to the notice of the Commission that some departments are not filling up the backlog of the SC category reservation which leads to the unwarranted situation of the posts reserved for the SC category remaining vacant.
Elaborating further, Mr. Bagha said that the Commission has given written instructions to the state government according to which the notifications issued by the welfare department from time to time should be implemented in letter and spirit.
