Punjab Encourages Farmers To Direct Seeding Of Paddy

Chandigarh, April 28, 2015: Punjab, a major producer of food grain, has chalked out a plan to motivate the farmers of the state to use the direct seeding of paddy technology.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that the government has decided to launch a joint project with Nuziveedu seeds to promote direct seeding of paddy in all blocks of the state during this paddy sowing season. .Paddy is generally sown after June 15 or mid July. He further said that Direct Seeding Programme for Paddy will be introduced initially on five acres of land in all blocks of Punjab.

He said that once this technique will successfully demonstrated in the fields, the Agriculture Department would initiate the process of popularising it among the farmers. This process would change the method of cultivation of traditional transplantation to direct sowing process. He said that farmers would prepare paddy seeding and then the transplantation would carried out in the fields. He further said that the paddy seed sowing method could help to reduce the requirement of water and conserve the falling water table in Punjab. The requirement of power during paddy season for irrigating fields would also reduce as less water will have to be used.
