SAD says despite repression people of Dakha

Ludhiana, October 18, 2019: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said despite repression let loose by the Congress government the people of Dakha had decided to vote for the Congress party.

Senior leaders Bikram Majithia and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the people of Punjab had never let any repression overcome them and that they had made up their mind to reject the Congress party.

Meanwhile, SAD candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali offered himself and his family members for arrest but asked the district police not to conduct midnight raids and harass the families of Akali workers to prevent them from voting in favour of the SAD in the forthcoming by-election to the Dakha assembly constituency.

The SAD candidate accompanied senior Akali leaders including Bikram Singh Majithia and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema to the office of the SSP (Rural) Ludhiana and presented evidence of the oppression let loose on Akali workers.

Without mincing any words, Mr Bikram Majithia cited 18 specific cases of vendetta politics to the SSP and asked him to tell why raids were being organised against these 18 persons only since the last one week. He said the situation was such that police force of seven districts was conducting raids against particular Akali workers. “Houses of Akali workers are being raided on frivolous charges like petty theft at night and the police personnel are misbehaving with their women folk. All this is happening under your watch”, Mr Majithia told the SSP adding the fundamental rights of Akali workers were being usurped. We will not allow this to happen and will do everything in our power to stop this goondaism”, he added.

Mr Majithia told the SSP that in direct contrast a listed gangster accompanied two Congress ministers to welcome the chief minister during his second road show in Dakha. “Minister Vijay Inder Singla even posted the picture on his face book page. It is astonishing that the police failed to take any action in the matter till now”. He said the police was also a mute spectator when cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu attacked an Amritdhari Sikh and deliberately disrespected his ‘dastar’ and his other articles of faith. “No action has been taken against the minister till now”, he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Majithia and Dr Daljit Cheema said no amount of police repression could thwart the voters of Dakha from supporting Manpreet Ayali. They said the chief minister had conducted a second road show after getting reports that Congress candidate was being rejected by the people. “All these repressive tactics will result in an even worse defeat for the chief minister’s parachute nominee”, they added.
