Rich tribute paid to the living legend Pandit Jasraj, India’s classical vocalist
Hyderabad, November 17, 2019: A Flute Recital by Shri Shashank & Vocal Recital by Shri Jayateertha Mevundi held in here the city at Gandhi Centenary Hall, Exhibition Grounds on Sunday. It was organized to paid tribute to the 89 years old living legend Pt. Jasraj, India’s most respected classical vocalist. Accompanied by Sateesh on Mridangam, Ojas Adhia on Tabla and Vyasmurthy Katti on Harmonium Jayateertha Mevundi, Indian classical vocalist of the Kirana gharana (singing style) from Bangalore displayed his musical prowess. From the beginning to end the well-known Hindustani vocalist, Jayateertha surprises his audience with amazing control of voice control. The concert was organised as a Tribute by Economic Committee (one of the wings of Exhibition Society), Surmandal, ICCR and Rithwik Foundation. Mr Surender of Exhibition Society, Mr Harikrishna, Cultural Department of Telangana, Mohan Hemmadi, Founder of Surmandal among 500 graced the concert. Followed by Jayateertha Mevundi’s performance, Shashank Subramanyam performed his flute recital. Shashank is a Grammy-nominated renowned exponent of the Bamboo Flute. He specialises in Indian Classical Music. The Centenary Hall full of audience at Exhibition ground experienced the unparalleled music of Flute Maestro Shashank. The gathering wished the speedy recovery of Lata Mangeshkar one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in our country. We hope that Latha, who is now 90 years, completes 100 years said Mohan Hemmadi, Founder of Surmandal. Surenderji, a Senior Member if Exhibition Society also spoke on the occasion and welcomed the music lovers to the concert. Economic Committee is one the wings of Exhibition Society that pursues and promotes Art and Culture. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) one of the organizers of the event is an autonomous organisation of the Government of India, involved in India’s external cultural relations, through cultural exchange with other countries and their peoples. Another musical organization associated with this event is Hyderabad based Surmandal a 50years old organization in the service of the music Rithwik Foundation is India’s first innovative music organization. It is a National initiativ to revive classical music and arts.
