Chandigarh, May 1, 2017: PUTA Executive Council during its meeting held on May 1, 2017 at 12.30 pm, unanimously decided that the Dharna which was started on March 9, 2017 over the issue of regularization of Grant to PU, be suspended for the time being, as positive signals have been received from Punjab Government and UGC/MHRD in the matter.

Now PUTA will start looking into the possibilities of Central Status for Panjab University. At the same time, the Executive members appreciated the initiative taken by the Syndicate for Central Status to Panjab University and for constituting a Committee for this purpose. PUTA will join hands on this move and prepare a document for an approval by the governing body of the PU and finally pursue for its subsequent approval by the Punjab and Central Government.

The Executive members discussed the letter concerning the resignation of faculty of DES and were of the unanimous opinion that PUTA has performed its duty to the level best. It was unanimously resolved to request teachers of the
Evening Department, not to press for resignation, as each member of the PUTA is equally important for the welfare of the Association. Further, efforts will be made by PUTA to resolve such issues, in future through dialogue with the authorities.

“We are pleased to inform you that Hon’ble Supreme Court has today asked UGC/MHRD to release interim amount by Friday. The next hearing is fixed on May 5, 2017”, said the release.
