Students seen engaged in Punjab State U-19 (Junior) Boys & Girls Chess Championship-2015 at CT Public School, Jalandhar on Friday.

Jalandhar, May 30, 2015: The Jalandhar District Chess Association is organising a 3-day Punjab State U-19 (Junior) Boys & Girls Chess Championship-2015 at CT Public School, Maqsudan. The championship triggered off on Friday where more than 120 participants from Amritsar, Moga, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozpur and Jalandhar took part.

Competitions are to be held in under-9, under-13 and open categories for boys and girls. This Tournament comes under Punjab Government Gradation Policy. First Four Selected players will be playing at National Junior Tournament to be held at Tamil Nadu in July.

The first day marks the inauguration by S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions), Mr. Manbir Singh (Managing Director, CT Group of Institutions), Mrs. Ranjana Rajput (Principal, CT Public School) in the presence of Mr. Mohinder Bhagat (Former Chairman, Medium Scale Industry Development Board), Mr. Rajender Sharma (Secretary, Punjab Chess Association), Mr. J.S. Cheema (President, Jalandhar Chess Association) and Mr. Munish Thapar (Secretary, Jalandhar Chess Association) and other members of the management and faculty.

After which, first round of the championship took place. One of the female participants revealed her determination, she said, “I have been competing from my childhood and have always been in a winning position. This game sharpens my mind and I will use all my abilities to make my team strong.”

The dignitaries wished everyone Good luck for the competition. S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) said that Chess, sharpens the mind and soul. It makes you mentally strong enough to solve any difficulty with the best use of Brains. I personally like this game a lot, would encourage our youngsters to encourage this game.
