Chandigarh, June 4, 2017: The Punjab Government is all set to take initiative to start a new course under skill development mission to prepare skilled labor for the cleaning of cities in a hygienic way. The Technical Education Minister, Mr.Charanjit Singh Channi has asked the officials of the Punjab Skill Development Mission to prepare a detailed proposal regarding this course and send it to the Union Government for approval so that this course could be started under Skill Development Mission.

While presiding over a review meeting of the Punjab Skill Development Mission , Mr. Channi said that there is no special training for labourers involved in the cleaning of the cities and they are still doing cleaning work in a traditional way. He said that due to this they have to face serious health hazards often . He said that during this training course the workers would be trained to use scientific tools such as machines, gloves, special shoes and masks during cleaning work.

He said that after the implementation of this course, the Punjab Skill Development Mission would sign an agreement with the Local Government Department and Health department in Punjab to employ only those workers who have got training from the Skill training Centres.

Mr. Channi issued clear cut instructions to the officers and employees of the Punjab Skill Development Mission to ensure 100% placement of the youth trained under Skill Development Mission. At the same time, he said that the goals set under the mission by the Union and the state government must be achieved in scheduled time.

The Technical Education Minister also said that Punjab's big companies should be empanelled for training the youth under the skill development mission as they already have good infrastructure in the state where the students can get better practical training. He said that doing so would bring better results under the skill development mission.

Mr. Channi further said that under Skill Development Mission major efforts should be made to train the labour involved in the various works related to construction sector. He said that this would not just enhance their skills but also be helpful in increasing their earnings.

The Minister also emphasized on providing skilled training to domestic workers under skill development mission. ‘This would increase the quality of the work of domestic workers and certificates from Skilled training Centres would also give them special recognition', added Channi.

Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu , Director Punjab Skill Development Mission briefed during the meeting that skill development mission, Punjab has been made operational just a year ago during which the skill development infrastructure has been set up in a big way. He said that from now onwards the main focus of the Punjab Skill Development Mission would be to provide quality training and provide self employment and jobs to the youth of the state.

The various managers working in the State Skill Development Mission and support staff were also present in the meeting.
