PUNJAB issued fresh notification of red beacons

Chandigarh, July 10, 2013: The Punjab Government today issued afresh notification with a pruned list of dignitaries, who have been authorised to use red beacons atop their official vehicles.

It may be added that this notification has been issued on the directions of Supreme Court of India deciding a Special Leave Petition in this regard with a view to strictly implementing the road safety measures. The orders to impound vehicles using red lights without authorisation have also been issued besides directing the authorities concerned to implement the instructions in true spirit. 

According to the new notification issued by Secretary Transport those, who have been authorized to use red beacons included Governor Punjab, Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Minister of State, Deputy Ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chief Justice and Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Member Parliament from Punjab (one vehicle only), Speaker, Deputy Speaker, MLAs (one vehicle for MLAs), Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries, Administrative Secretaries, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Advocate General of Punjab, Legal Remembrance Punjab, Chairman of State Level Boards/Corporations/Commissions with the rank of State Minister and above, Director General of Police, ADGPs, IGs (Zonals), Commissioners/Senior Superintendents of Police, Registrar of Punjab and Haryana High Court, District Session Judges, Commissioners/Deputy Commissioners, Excise and Taxation Commissioner and State Transport Commissioner, Punjab besides all Advisors to Chief Minister, Punjab with a status of State Minister and above and Mayors of all Municipal Corporations. 

It has also been clarified that in case vehicles with red light atop was not carrying the dignitary then such a red light would not be used and covered with a cover. All eligible dignitaries have been requested to deposit their old stickers and get the new stickers issued.

Instructions have also been issued to impound the vehicles that were found using red beacon without any authorization.
