Punjab invites applications from sportspersons for Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award

Chandigarh, November 7, 2013: The Punjab Government has invited applications from sports persons having national and international acclamations in their respective sports in the year 2011 and 2012.  The award with a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh and award with a trophy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and a citation would be distributed amongst three dozen players of 37 games.

According to an official spokesman, the awards would be given soon after completion of application and scrutiny process. He said that willing candidates can submit their applications with attested copies of their achievement and certificates, bio data and 2 passport size photographs. The candidates can submit their applications directly or through District Sports Officers or Punjab Olympic Federation in the office of Director Sports, Punjab.

The spokesman also said that achievements for the last five years would be considered and for the year 2011 the achievements of sportsmen would be accepted between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2010 while for the year 2012 awards the achievement would be considered from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2011. It is pertinent to mention here that recently in April this Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal distributed Maharaja Ranjit Singh Awards to 67 players.
