Punjab Government Constitutes Four Member Committee Under Swachh Bharat Mission

Chandigarh, May 11, 2016: The Punjab Government has constituted a four member committee to nominate three gram panchayats for awards.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab said that the Deputy Commissioners would be the Chairpersons of the committee whereas Districts Development and Panchayat Officers, Block Development and Panchayat Officers and XENs of Water Supply and Sanitation Department would be the members.
He further said that the Swachh Gram Abhiyan Scheme has been launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to ensure all round cleanliness in the country. The scheme could get succeeded only if 70% population residing in villages takes up as a mission.
To motivate Gram Panchayats into this noble cause, it has been decided to award three gram panchayats in each district which have done outstanding work in this regard with prize money of Rs. 5 lac, Rs. 3 lac and Rs. 2 lac respectively.
He further said that the State government has provided Rs. 2.20 crore under this scheme during the current financial year. The next meeting, in this regard, would be held on May 18, 2016 at Chandigarh, he added.
