Punjab Government Chalked Out Comprehensive Plan To Clean & Maintain Village Pounds

Chandigarh, November 7, 2015: In bid to provide the hygienic atmosphere to the villagers’ of the state the Punjab government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to clean and maintain the village pounds.
Giving the detail of the plan an official spokesperson of the Rural Development and Panchayats Department said here today that department has already conducted a survey in this regard and government has launched a pilot project with a total outlay of Rs. 100 Crore to clean and maintain the village ponds. The state government has identified 10396 villages where this scheme would be implemented. The spokesman said that total area of the ponds in these villages was 24905 acre. He said that 325 pounds would be cleaned in the first phase. Under the cleanliness drive Weed and Silt would be removed and the depth of the Ponds to be increase by one feet. The surrounding wall of the pounds would be constructed by three feet and Chambers for the animals would also be made in every pound.
