Punjab To Provide Subsidy To Farmers On Agri-Implements- Committee Constituted

Chandigarh, April 17, 2015: To provide good quality and standard implements and equipments to the farmers at subsidised price, the Punjab government has constituted a committee for cost analysis/ price appraisal of agriculture implements and equipments.

A spokesperson of the agriculture department today disclosed that the committee comprises of Dr. R. S. Sidhu Director Extension Education Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana as Chairman with Director Agriculture Department Punjab, Head department of farm machinery and power engineering P.A.U, Head department of Economics Sociology all members and Joint Directors, Agriculture ( Engineer) as Member Secretary. Besides, the committee would be empowered to co-opt any other member if so required for the purpose. The committee would furnish its report to government within a month.

He said that the committee would visit factories of established manufacturers of agri- implements to study on the spot the standard and quality control and the efforts made by the manufacturers to maintain quality standards. The committee would also appraise price of each implement after studying its cost data and would make necessary recommendations to the government for price determination and subsidy amount for each implement. He said that the committee would also identify new machinery/ agri- implements and if found suitable would recommend to the government for its purchase and amount of financial assistance to the farmers. Beside the committee would also make recommendations for efforts to persuade farmers for utilization of various agri implements.
