Chandigarh, December 2, 2015:  Punjab is all set to hold five day Progressive Punjab National Livestock Expo and Championship at Sri Muktsar Sahib from 8 to 12 January 2016 and efforts are being made to attract international tourists to this most colourful and vibrant show on the pattern of Pushkar Mela.
Additional Chief Secretary Animal Husbandry Mr. Mandeep Singh Sandhu today reviewed the preparation of Expo in which heads of departments of concerned departments, Deputy Commissioners of different district participated.
It was decided in the meeting that to increase public participation in this Expo and encourage interaction of livestock farmers from state with farmers of other states, progressive farmers from different states would also be invited. Besides livestock championship experts from different fields would educate the farmers regarding latest inventions in animal husbandry, fisheries, piggery besides guiding them to explore full market potential of their products. Over 200 stalls have been planned on the venue in which different agri-equipment companies; pharma companies would display their state of art products.  
 Efforts are being made to encourage NRI participation in this colourful Expo so that second generation NRIs could get a feel of rich cultural heritage, colourful rural life of Punjab. Adjoining farm houses will be roped in, where NRIs can stay under Farm Tourism Package enjoying the Rural Environment for 5 days. For the first time equestrian championships would be organized in which teams from Army have been invited for different equestrian events like polo matches, cycle polo, tent pegging and show jumping etc. As a part of package cultural program of different states would be organized by North Zone Cultural Center in the evening.
It was informed in the meeting that Australia has already confirmed its participation in the Expo besides Germany and UK are also expected to send their teams and experts. An Australian delegation would visit Punjab next week to tie up arrangements with the state.
A series of seminars would be organized during five days in which over 70 experts from different fields would educate farmers in local dialect. Prominent amongst other who were present at the meeting included Deputy Commissioner of Sri Mukatsar Sahib and Bathinda Dr. Basant Garg,              Mr. Inderjit Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry, Mr. Madan Mohan, Director   Fishery department, Mr, H.S. Sandha Director, Dairy Development Department, Mr. Amarjit Singh, Joint Director Animal Husbandry and other seniors from the department of Rural Development and Panchyat, Tourism and Information & Public Relations Department.
