Chandigarh, November 6, 2015: BKU described the meager increase in MSP of wheat as a cruel joke on already distressed farmers. In a joint statement issued by S.BHupinder Singh Mann Ex MP and national President BKU and Punjab BKU President Baldev Singh Mianpur, they rejected the increase in MSP of wheat out rightly. They said that as per agriculture experts the cost of production of wheat comes to Rs.2730 per quintal. Thus with the MSP proposed now at Rs.1525, the farmers have to bear a loss of Rs.1205 for every quintal of wheat.
The farmer leaders reminded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that they had issued full page advertisements in news papers before 2014 polls that they will implement Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations. Even in the manifesto of BJP, a clear promise has been made to give 50% over and above cost of production to farmers. Where is that promise? Asked S. Bhupinder Singh Mann.  Like all other forgotten poll promises, Modi also seems to have forgotten his promise to the farmers of the nation.
They also rejected the 8% increase in MSP of few pulses. The MSP of pulses has been raised to Rs. 34 per KG while the customer is getting daal at Rs. 200 per kg. who is profiteering at the cost of farmers and consumer he asked. The normal yield of pulses is around 5 quintals per acre. With this meager increase of 250 per quintal, the farmer will get just Rs. 1250 per acre more. Isn’t this a pathetic joke on the farmers?
It has been proven beyond doubt that this government anti farmer and anti consumer.
S. Baldev Singh Mianpur informed that a delegation of farmers will be meeting Governor Punjab on Monday and submit a memorandum to his Excellency for his intervention the issues of farmers.
