PU Delegates met Nobel laureate
Chandigarh, January 6, 2019: Panjab University delegates under the leadership of Dean Faculty of Science, Professor Devender Mehta from Physics Department today met Professor Avram Hershko, a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation, during his visit to Chandigarh (UT). This meeting is an outcome of the meeting of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar with Professor Avram Hershko during Inaugural Session of 106th Indian Science Congress held recently at Jalandhar. The delegation apprised him of the rich research and innovation heritage of Panjab University and the work done by its various stakeholders. Professor Sanjiv Puri shared various research outcomes of PU through a presentation during the meeting. He has shown keen interest in different products like Thank God, Darvi Malahar, Psorisome, Lipotar, Acne and Antifungal products developed by university faculty. He queried about the usage of traditional Indian medicine knowledge in the development of medicines. He was informed about the deliverables and patents that university has generated. Professor Avram Hershko showed keen interest in the research being carried out in the phytomedicine area. He was quite impressed with the concept of CRICK that PU has initiated and is speer-heading. The PU delegation also apprised him on various collaborative areas that the University can work with his team in future. Professor Avram showed keen interest in the research and innovation activities of PU and promised to visit the University for further collaboration during his next visit to India.
