Poorly constructed roads-vigilance bureau collects samples

Chandigarh, June 17, 2014: Punjab Vigilance Bureau has today collected the samples of materials of two roads leading from Phagwara-Dosanjh, Mukandpur road (11.35 kilometer section of Dosanjh-Mukandpur) and stretch of road from village Nagar-Apra-Mukandpur that got broken immediately after construction. These roads were constructed under the Pardhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) respectively six and four months ago.

The spokesperson of the Bureau said that first stretch of the road was laid down with the cost of Rs.345.85 lacs by Jalandhar Cantonment wing of Punjab Works Department and was completed in December last year. As per the agreement, work for this road was started from November 21, 2012 and was being completed by May 25, 2013 but within one month of its up-gradation, this road was broken from different places. He said that the second stretch of village Nagar-Apra-Mukandpur road was completed four months ago and this road was also broken from different places. He further said that the joint checking of these roads was conducted by Technical team of Vigilance Bureau, Chandigarh and officers of the PWD, Mohali under the leadership of Jalandhar VB wing DSP Bhupinder Singh. This team collected samples from various locations, which would be sent to the laboratories for examination. He said that the relevant record was also been taken into custody. The spokesperson further said that after the examination report, action would be taken against the erring.
