Punjab CM for showcasing Punjab as a model state in healthcare sector

New Delhi, November 23, 2014: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today envisioned to showcase Punjab as a model state in the Healthcare sector across the globe in the near future.

Speaking on the occasion before signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Punjab government and Health Sector Skill Council an arm of the National Skill Development Council (NSDC), here today, the Chief Minister said that the state government had already taken several initiatives in skilling the unemployed youth by imparting training in the fields of Healthcare and Para medics. Felicitating the dignitaries on dais, he said that it was a matter of great pride for Punjabis that Punjab has today became the first ever state to ink such MoU with the NSDC in the Healthcare sector. Badal said that the state had always accorded the highest priority to the Health sector and has already launched many skill courses in the Medical Colleges of Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala under the auspices of Baba Farid University of Healthcare and Medical Sciences adding he mentioned that boarding and lodging facilities would be soon provided to the aspirants in the upcoming hostels. He also pointed out that Punjab has been rated excellent by the Government of India in the Medical and Healthcare infra structure.

The Chief Minister further said that continuing the spree of excellence in the field of medical education and healthcare the Punjab would soon emerge as a frontrunner state in the healthcare skill development too. He hoped that today’s MoU inked between the state government and the Healthcare Sector Skill Council of NSDC would prove to be a milestone in upgrading the existing courses and infra structure besides enabling the unemployed youth to have fairly better chances of gainful employability due to their wider acceptability in the health sector not only at national but international level also. Badal complemented the Chairman Healthcare Sector Skill Council Dr. Naresh Trehan for his vision and mission to promote Punjab as a major pool of skilled manpower in the Health sector to cater the scarcity of trained hands in this vast field especially in the country’s reputed medical and healthcare institutions.               

Emphasising the need to have better synergy between the state government and Healthcare Sector Skill Council, the Chief Minister said that the signing of MoU should not be merely restricted to paper rather it should be carry forward in the right earnest being treated as Memorandum of Commitment (MoC) and Memorandum of Action (MoA). He assured fulsome support and cooperation to the Healthcare Sector Skill Council to transform the dream of skilling our youth to secure remunerative jobs into reality. Badal said, “This can only be feasible if all of us work zealously 24x7 to convert the MoU into MoA”.

In his address the Chairman of Healthcare Sector Skill Council Dr. Naresh Trehan lauded the vision of Chief Minister and endorsed the latter’s point of view to treat the said MoU as MoA. He hoped that this partnership would help in bridging the skill gap currently existing in the Healthcare sector and would also prove to be a boon for the unemployed youth for getting gainful employment. Dr. Trehan said that there was a huge potential of lab technicians, nurses and patient attendants to be absorbed in this vast sector and this laudatory step would be fruitful in the furtherance of this noble cause. 

Later, the MoU was signed by Chairman, Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) Dr Naresh Trehan, Director Technical Education for Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) GS Ghuman, MD & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Dilip Chenoy and Secretary Medical Education and Research, HussanLal.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Rajya Sabha Member Naresh Gujral, Advisor Health to state government Dr KK Bhatnagar, Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, Principal Secretary Health Vinnie Mahajan, Secretary Medical Education and Research Hussan Lal, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister KJS Cheema, Resident Commissioner Punjab Bhawan K Sivaprasad, Director Technical Education GS Ghuman and Special Secretary Health Vikas Garg.
