Peace Committee Meeting Held In Ludhiana

DC Ludhiana chairs the meeting of Peace Committee held at Ludhiana on Monday.

Ludhiana, October 19, 2015:     Following desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Faridkot district few days back, the member of Peace Committee, District Administration, members of religious and social organisations have jointly condemned this cowardly incident and has appealed to people that they should maintain peace and communal harmony in the state. A meeting in this regard was held yesterday and all the members assured that they would make hearty efforts in this direction. This meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal.
During the meeting, all the participants stressed on maintaining peace and communal harmony in the state and condemned the cowardly act of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and said that this unfortunate incident has led to resentment in the Sikh community.
While condemning this incident, Mr Rajat Agarwal said that the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is an act by anti social elements who was to disrupt peace and communal harmony during the festival season. He said that the protestors should also understand that by blocking roads, the farmers are also being affected because the harvesting of paddy crop is going on in the state. He said that some unscrupulous elements are also actively involved in misguiding the public by posting fake photographs on social media and also appealed that people should not fall prey to it.
While addressing the meeting, former minister and chairman of District Planning Board, Mr Hira Singh Gabria and vice chairman of Punjab Traders Board Mr Madan Lal Bagga said that the traders community wants peace in Punjab and assured that all traders organisations in the district would make efforts to maintain peace and communal harmony. They said that no person would be allowed to destroy hard won peace in the state.
Chairman of Punjab Dalit Vikas Board Mr Vijay Danav, Mr Laxman Dravid and Mr Naresh Dhingan said that the Valmiki community condemns this incident and assured that their community would work towards maintaining peace and communal harmony. They said that Punjab is a state of Guru';s, Peer';s and Faqir';s and no person would be allowed to disrupt peace here.
Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill, former president, Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana, and noted Punjabi poet, said that it becomes duty of people from all religions to join hands and spread the message of peace and communal harmony because before talking of religion, we all are human beings as well as brothers and sisters. He said that during such times, its the humanity which suffers the most.
Christian community representative and member of Punjab Minorities Commission Mr Albert Dua said that for maintaining peace and communal harmony, a joint meeting of various representatives of Christian community and Pastor';s association was held recently after which prayers were offered in all churches of the state. He said that the Christian community respects the feelings of Sikhs and Punjabi';s as a whole.
From Muslim community, Mr Abdul Shakoor Mangat and Mr Javed Mangat assured that the Muslim community is standing with the Sikh community in this need of hour.
The senior police officers present during the meeting said that the Punjab Police is committed in curbing such anti social forces and is making every effort to ensure that it was not disturbed at any cost.
Prominent among those present during the meeting included SSP Ludhiana (Rural) Ravcharan Singh Brar, DCP Narinder Bhargava, ADC Khanna Ajay Sood, Assistant Commissioner (General & Grievances) Kanu Thind, Istri Akali Dal district president Bibi Surinder Kaur Dyal, Samvedna Trust head Ravinder Arora, besides several others.
