PAU's AICRPDA, ORP Centre at Ballowal Saunkhri receives Best Centre Award

Ludhiana, January 9, 2015: The AICRPDA (All India Coordinated Research Project for Dryland Agriculture), ORP (Operational Research Project) centre, Ballowal Saunkhri got the Best Centre Award for 2012-13 and 2013-14. Dr S.C. Sharma, Chief Scientist, AICRPDA, Ballowal Saunkhri along with his team received the award and certificate from Dr Panjab Singh, former Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research during the Biennial Workshop at AICRPDA, Indore. Dr A.K. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Gwalior; and Dr Masood Ali, Former Director, Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur were special guests at the function. Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana congratulated Dr. S. C. Sharma and his team of scientists for this award.

During the workshop, Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, CRIDA and Project Coordinator, AICRPDA, reviewed the progress of all 22 AICRPDA and 8 ORP centres. Main emphasis in the workshop was given on the development of rainfed technologies such as in-situ and ex-situ soil moisture conservation techniques, integrated nutrient management, energy management, crop contingency planning and alternate land use system. In this workshop, best performing centres and 18 progressive farmers all over India were awarded for developing and adopting the rainfed agriculture technologies.

Among progressive farmers, Sukhvinder Singh of ORP village Naude Majra, tehsil Nurpur Bedi, Rupnagar received the Best Farmer Award 2014 for adopting rainfed agriculture technologies developed by the centre and village seed bank concept.
