Hoshiarpur, May 11, 2015: Union State Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Samla said that Rs. 255.78 Lakh were being disbursed under Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Scheme for meritorious Students of Senior Secondary School Examination belonging to Schedule Caste so as to recognizing, promoting and financially  assisting such students in the country.
While distributing cheques worth Rs. 2.60 lakh to the eight students of academic session 2013-14 of Hoshiarpur district selected under Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Scheme for meritorious Students, Sampla revealed that about 696 students of 29 Boards/Councils of the country would be covered under the scheme. He further informed that the Award would be given to three students scoring highest marks in the regular Class-XII level examination conducted by the senior Secondary Board/Council in four streams such as Arts, Science (With Math), Science (With Biology/Maths & Biology) and Commerce. `` After first three positions of merit, the next three girl students securing the highest marks in each stream would be given a special award of Rs. 20,000 aiming to encourage the girl students,`` said Sampla adding further that the scheme was being implemented by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, set up under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in 1992. .
Union State Minister further revealed that award would be given as one time grant. The award for securing highest marks in four streams would be of Rs. 60000 each and Award for securing 2nd highest marks would be of Rs. 50,000 each and the award for securing 3rd highest marks would be comprised of Rs. 40,000 each stream.
The students of district Hoshiarpur who were awarded by Union State Minister last evening were included Kumari Poonam of Village Dadial, Sonia of village Chela Maqsuspur, Gurleen Kaur, Hameen, Navdeep Priya and Bharti (all residents of Hoshiarpur), Shehnaz of village Monna Kalan and Jaspreet Kaur of Meerpur Village. SDM Anand Sagar Sharma, DDSO Jagdish Miter, Tehsildar Mr. Baljinder Singh were also present on the occasion. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
