PAU ORGANISES BEEKEEPING COURSE

Ludhiana, January 11, 2018: The Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has organized a five-day beekeeping training course for the farmers and farm women under National Horticulture Mission (NHM). Dr Pardeep K.Chhuneja, Course Coordinator and Head, Department of Entomology, said the motive of the training course is to impart beekeeping skills to the unemployed rural youth towards their self employment in earning their livelihood and rural prosperity. “The experts will deal with the beekeeping issues in a scientific manner and whet the technical skills of the trainees to enable them to initiate beekeeping enterprise for earning and enhancing their income,” he added.

During the course, practical hands-on experience will be provided on various aspects such as bee husbandry during different seasons; production and post-harvest handling of honey; processing and marketing of honey; colonies multiplication, and management of bee enemies and diseases. The trainees will also be apprised of the finance facilities and subsidy schemes available for beekeeping.

Dr Jaspal Singh, Senior Entomologist and Technical Coordinator of the course, said another beekeeping training course, especially, for scheduled castes will be organized in the village Hasanpur, district Ludhiana, fromJanuary 15-19, 2018.
