PAU KISAN CLUB HOLDS ITS MONTHLY MEET

Ludhiana, October 7, 2016: Deliberations on agronomic practices and new recommendations for rabi crops, cultivation of winter vegetables and contract farming were held during the monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Nearly 500 farmers participated in the camp. Besides, the monthly training camp of women’s wing of the club was also organized in which about 120 farm women participated.

In his welcome remarks, Dr T.S. Riar, Coordinator of the club, exhorted the farmers to sow PAU recommended crop varieties during rabi season for better returns. He also urged them to avoid burning paddy straw and instead use it for biogas generation, mushroom cultivation, compost making and other useful purposes. Dr Riar stressed on cooperative farming to cut down expenses and increase farm income.

Dr S.S. Sooch, an expert from School of Energy Studies for Agriculture, PAU informed the farmers about use of bio-gas plants for household consumption.

Dr J.S. Gill, an expert of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU demonstrated the use of Lucky Seeder and PAU Happy Seeder for straw management.

Dr Amandeep Brar, PAU Agronomist, threw light on new recommendations for rabi crops.

In addition, farmers were informed about prevention and cure of kidney problems, orthopedic problems and organ donation.

Dr Rupinder Kaur, Coordinator of women’s wing, said that demonstrations on preparation of healthy and nutritious recipes from winter vegetables were given.

S. Manpreet Singh Grewal, President of the club, while proposing a vote of thanks, exhorted the farmers to remain in touch with PAU experts for profitable and sustainable farming.
