PAU HOLDS TRAINING PROGRAMME AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Ludhiana, December 2, 2016: The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an awareness campaign on “Safe Drinking Water” and a training course on “Income Generation Activities” for rural women in the village Bains, district Ludhiana. More than 50 women participated in this programme. Demonstrations were given on the use of water testing kit, developed by the Department of Microbiology, PAU. Water of 25 households was tested free of cost to encourage the use of these kits under All India Coordinated Research Project on Home Science Extension.

Dr Kanwaljit Kaur, Professor, motivated the women to test drinking water regularly and maintain the hygiene of water supply system.

Skill development and entrepreneurship were the focus of the demonstrations, conducted by B.Sc. Home Science students under the guidance of Dr Sukhdeep Kaur, Assistant Professor. Making of detergent powder and phenyl was demonstrated. Besides, focus was on block printing, jam making, candle making, papad making, and tie and dye. Women were also encouraged to start income generation activities and enhance their family income.
