PAU To Hold Training Courses On Various Agri-Aspects

Ludhiana, July 3, 2015: Training courses on various aspects of agriculture will be conducted at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in July. The Directorate of Extension Education, PAU will coordinate the training courses.

Divulging contours, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education said PAU will hold a training course on the “Operation, Adjustment and Maintenance of Farm Machinery” on July 7 and 8. The farmers and farm women will participate in the course, where the experts of agricultural engineering will focus on the repair and maintenance of tractor’s air cleaning system, fuel system, cooling system, power transmission system, battery maintenance system, and electrical maintenance system. In addition, the experts will give practical training in the repair and maintenance of laser land leveler, rotavator, seed drill, planter and precision machinery.

Further, Dr Sidhu said a training course on the “Processing of Soybean” will be organized for the farmers and the farm women from July 14-16. The experts of food science and technology will highlight the importance and value addition to soybean, and provide tips for the utilization of soybean in bakery products, he added. The experts will also give demonstrations on the preparation of soy products like flavored soy milk and paneer, he said.

Meanwhile, another training course on the “Scope of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, their Processing and Marketing” will be hosted for the agriculture and horticulture development officers, district extension specialists and KVK scientists on July 16 and 17. Dr Sidhu said, “PAU experts will highlight the scope of organic cultivation of medicinal, aromatic and spice crops in Punjab.” In addition, thrust will be on export procedure for agriculture commodities, improved cultivation techniques of mentha and turmeric, cultivation of seed spices, and cultivation of cymbopogon species, he informed. The trainees will also be educated about processing, business model, profitable cropping system and major constituents of medicinal, aromatic and spice crops, he said.
