PAU to hold annual workshop of AICRP on Maize

Ludhiana, March 31, 2015: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will hold the “58th Annual Workshop of All India Coordinated Research Project on Maize” from April 4-6. The workshop will be conducted in association with the Indian Institute of Maize Research (IIMR), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Dr Gurbachan Singh, Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi will be the chief guest while Dr J.S. Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR will be the guest of honour. Dr I.S. Solanki, Assistant Director General (Food and Fodder Crops), ICAR will be the special guest while Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU will preside over the workshop. On the occasion, Dr O.P. Yadav, Director, IIMR will also share his views.

Dr J.S. Chawla, Organizing Secretary, said the workshop will review the work done during Kharif 2014 and Rabi 2013-14, and formulate the plan of work for Kharif 2015 and Rabi 2015-16. Besides, discussions on “Doubling Maize Production of India by 2025- Opportunities and Challenges;” variety identification; ICAR-CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre) collaborative research; breeder seed production and training programmes; germplasm exchange, registration and seed issues will be held, he said. In addition, lead lectures will also be organised during the workshop, he added.
