Ludhiana, March 17, 2016: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is all set to hold its Kisan Mela on March 18 and 19.

Dr R.S.Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, said, “Kisan Mela is an important event for equipping the farmers with the latest farm technologies. The feedback received from the farmers helps in designing future research strategies.” During the mela, agro-industrial exhibition, field demonstrations, produce competition, soil and water testing, sale of farm literature, interaction of farmers with the experts, technical and question-answer session, and cultural programme would be the major attractions, he told. Besides, five outstanding farmers of Punjab and five agricultural scientists of PAU would be honoured for their contributions to agriculture, horticulture and development of farm technologies, he told. The theme of the mela “Kheti melain de rang, sudhre beej, machinery, kitaban de sang” seeks to urge the farmers to make use of improved seeds, read farm literature for necessary technical guidance and make optimal use of farm machinery, he said.

Meanwhile, the stalls of PAU farm publications would be put up at four different spots in the University including that at agro-industrial exhibition ground; farm of Director (Seeds); near old building of Centre for Communication and International Linkages (CCIL); and near new building of CCIL which is next to Farmers’ Service Centre.
