Ludhiana, July 26, 2016: Students from different college of Ludhiana gathered today under the banner of All India Students Federation (AISF). They expressed concern at the increasing cost of education at all levels. The meeting demanded that commercialisation of education should end and all levels of education should be within the reach of the common man. In this connection they supported the ongoing agitation by the parents of some school against the increase in fee and other charges despite instructions to the contrary from the education department.
The meeting demanded that the government should intervene immediately and regulate the fee structure and other charges. To meet the aspirations of the students from all sections of the society government should take the responsibility to impart education and introduce common area school system.
The students in the meeting expressed concern at the crime against women and demanded security outside the educational institutions. They also condemned violence against the minorities and the Dalits by a section of the polity.
The students also pledged to follow the path of our freedom fighters and strengthen democratic and secular values. It was also decided in the meeting that these type scientific schooling / meetings will be organised in future also and more number of fellow students will be mobilised to participate in this meetings.
The meeting ended with the decisions to hold extended meeting of students. Releasing this to the press Sulatan Malik appealed to the students community of Ludhiana come forward and participate in the next meeting of (AISF)being organized on 7th August.
Former leaders of the AISF Dr Arun Mitra, Dr Rajinder Pal Aulukh, Dr Gurpreet Rattan, Ramesh Rattan, Walaiti Khan and Kuldip Singh Binder addressed the students and highlighted the glorious history of AISF during freedom struggle and after that.
