Chandigarh, October 16, 2014: The Punjab government has made payments to the tune of Rs. 185 crore to the farmers against the purchase of their crop by different procurement agenciesduring the ongoing paddy procurement in the state. The payment has been made in accordance with the guidelines fixed by the government of India.
Meanwhile 18, 22,180 tonnes of paddy has been procured till last evening. Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the government said that out of the total paddy procured, 17, 22,291 (94.5%) tonnes was procured by the government agencies and private agencies procured 99,889 tonnes (5.5%). Out of the government agencies, PUNGRAIN procured 4,82,748 tonnes(28.0%), MARKFED-4,18,800 tonnes(24.3%), PUNSUP 3,91,239 tonnes (22.7%), PSWC 1,65,008 (9.6%) and PAFC 1,75,735 tonnes(10.2%). The central government agency FCI could procure 88,761 tonnes (5.2%) of paddy till last evening.
Giving details of the  district wise paddy procurement state, he said that district Kapurthala was on the top by procuring 1,91,315 tonnes of paddy while Jalandhar and Faridkot were placed at second and third position by procuring 1,75,396 and 1,71,021 tonnes of paddy till October 15, 2014.
