Punjabis struck in Iraq-statewide campaign to collect info shows positive response

Chandigarh, June 19, 2014: The state wide campaign launched by the Punjab Government to seek details from the families regarding Punjabis struck in strife torn Iraq, showed a tremendous response with more than 50 families approaching 24x7 Punjab Civil Control Room giving the details of the relatives in Iraq.
According to an official spokesman, up to 3.00 pm more than 50 families had rang up in the control room giving the details about their relatives. He said that the moment control room numbers were flashed on the TV channels, the two telephone lines of the civil control room flooded with calls from anxious relatives.
The spokesman said that meanwhile all Deputy Commissioners, simultaneously being informed about information of Punjabis from their respective district struck in Iraq and Deputy Commissioners, through their officers, are approaching all such families assuring them full support of Punjab Government in this difficult hour.
The Punjab Government is, meanwhile, sharing all details with Government of India and Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safe evacuation of Punjabis from troubled Iraq. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and NRI Affairs Minister Jathedar Tota Singh were in constant touch with Ministry of External Affairs for coordinating safe retrieval of Punjabis from Iraq.
Jathedar Tota Singh NRI Affairs Minister Punjab said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is personally camping in Delhi and in constant touch with the Prime Minister Office and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to make arrangements for safe return of Punjabis from Iraq.
The Minister appealed to the people to give the full details to control room about the Punjabis including name, his telephone number in Iraq, firm/company in which he was working and location where he is stuck. He said that the information can be provided at 0172-2740397 and at 0172-2740035 besides at fax number 0172-2740936. The spokesman said that relatives should also provide their telephone numbers so that Punjab Government could inform them regarding the safety and well being at Iraq.
Minister has also appealed to the media and common people to publicize the control room numbers of the Punjab Government through social media and internet; you tube etc so that Punjabis stuck in Iraq could contact Punjab Government for their safe exit. He said that as internet services are still working in Iraq therefore Punjabis stuck there should also use this medium to contact Punjab government.
