Paddy arrival picks up

Chandigarh, October 14, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 2002484 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.

The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 2002484  tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 1697873 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 304611 tonnes of paddy. Till October 13, PUNGRAIN procured 436297  tonnes (25.7%), MARKFED procured 381359  tonnes (22.5%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 399329 tonnes (23.5%) PSWC procured 169227 tonnes (10.0%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 176027  tonnes (10.4%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 135634  tonnes (8.0%). 

The spokesman added that District Tarn Taran with 334668 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ferozepur with 278098 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Jalandhar with 220338  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
