Inviting educational institution and corporate organizations to offer a support system for the students
Chennai, January 11, 2018: AVTAR Human Capital Trust, the CSR arm of D&I pioneer AVTAR Group is set to host a one-of-its kind career visioning program, “UdyogUtsav 2018” on 27th January, 2018 (Saturday) at Dr.MGR-Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, Chennai. Organized as part of Project PUTHRI, India’s first career-intentionality development project for underprivileged girl students, the event aims to provide a platform for the students to visualize and experience the benefit of education and long term career thereby leading them to pursue white collar jobs.

The one-day career exhibition and conference is being organized in partnership with Meera, a flagship herbal product from the house of FMCG conglomerate CavinKare Pvt Ltd. The event will provide an opportunity for 1000 PUTHRI Scholars from 100 Corporation schools to meet, network, explore and gain insights about the myriad possibilities of courses, scholarships, jobs, internships and career paths.

The program will also act as a knowledge sharing forum, wherein a variety of inspiring speakers from corporate organizations and educational institutions will enlighten the PUTHRI Scholars about courses and careers that can be pursued.

The International Labour Organisation has suggested that women’s work may be the single-most important factor in reducing poverty in developing economies (J, 2006). A 2012 study on third billion countries by Booz &Company established that an increased number of women in the workforce could imply that India’s GDP could go up by as much as 27%, per capita income could go up by as much as 20% by 2030 (Aguirre, Hoteit, Rupp, & Sabbagh, 2012) – a point reinforced by the 2016 McKinsey Research.

It is this objective that Project PUTHRI works towards – creating career intentionality among India’s underprivileged daughters thereby leading them to a white collar job, economic participation and therefore contribution to India’s GDP.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, Founder – President, AVTAR Group, said “Intentionality lays the foundation for a sustainable career and we strongly believe that this begins at a grass-root level. We are at a significant juncture in our journey of enlightening girl children about career intentionality. UdyogUtsav 2018 will be a milestone in guiding these young women to be more intentional towards building a sustainable career.”

Adding to this, Dr. Saundarya said, “It gives us immense satisfaction, as we guideover 1000 PUTHRI scholars to take their next step in pursuing a career that will take them out of the vicious circle of poverty. We are confident that this initiative along with our well-rounded skilling program will direct these young women of tomorrow towards building aninclusive workplace with a 50-50 gender balance.”

Gayatri, Group Brand Manager, Haircare - CavinKare Pvt Ltd said, “For over 27 years, brand Meera has been associated with motherly care. Brand Meera takes pride in associating with Project PUTHRI, extending our support & guidance to our beloved puthris. At 15, young girls dream about conquering the world but they require help in identifying and pursuing their interests. PUTHRI provides that helping hand in making many dreams come true and in channelizing their passion. Brand Meera is happy and proud to provide its support towards converting these dreams into reality.”
