Chandigarh, January 17, 2018: Prof.Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of Dr.Simrit Kahlon, Warden, Girls Hostel No. 7(GH7), PU to look into the complaint of the students regarding quality of food in girls hostel no.1.
The members of the committee comprising of Dr.Kamla, Warden, GH-2, Dr.Sanjeev Gautam, Warden, BH3, Dr.Vishal Sharma, Warden, Boys Hostel No. 6 and Dr.Suman Mor, Warden, GH-1 visited mess and canteen area for inspected the status of cleanliness and hygiene and also inspected water cooler/other water supply sources installed in the mess area. It was observed that the water cooler tank and the water were clean. Also, no cockroach or other pests were observed in the kitchen and storage room. The overall cleanliness and hygiene was found in order. Thereafter, members interacted with the food committee members and hostellers who complaint of a dead cockroach in the food.
They admitted that no cockroach was found by them on 15.1.18 as being reported in papers and neither they reported about it. However, they reported about presence of suspected worm in water jug. However, members of the committee taking a series note on the complaint, imposed a fine of Rs. 2000/- on mess contractor to take all necessary measures.
Dr. Suman Mor, Warden, Girls Hostel no. 1(GH1) informed that the water samples have already been sent for testing. It was also informed that keeping in mind the hygiene of utensils, a demonstration was given by the dietician to mess/canteen contractors and workers regarding use of Potassium Permanganate for washing utensils.
Warden GH1 issued strict directions to mess/canteen contractors to take necessary measures in keeping proper sanitation and hygiene.
The committee members proposed for installation of CCTVs in the mess/canteen areas.
