Not Bargari sacrilege, include 1984 Sikh massacre in Syllabus: Tarun Chugh

Chandigarh, May 11, 2018: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has criticised and rejected Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar's demand for inclusion of Bargari Sacrilege incident in Punjab school syllabus. The party has instead demanded that 1984 Sikh massacre be included in the syllabus.

BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh termed the proposal as a divisive conspiracy which could harm the unity and integrity of the country.

Chugh said the Bargari sacrilege incident was vehemently condemned by one and all but the SAD-BJP regime didn't allow communal harmony to be disturbed.

The BJP leader said that after Jakhar's statement regarding inclusion of Bargari incident in syllabus, it can be safely said that the unfortunate incident could be a part of Congress' poll strategy.

He said that participation of Congress leaders Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Inderjit Singh Zira and others during Sarbat Khalsa at Chabba after Bargari sacrilege incident and the passage of a resolution demanding Khalistan there was more than enough to prove that the Congress didn't hesitate to fuel sensitive issues even at the cost of communal harmony in the state. He alleged that Congress played a role during 1980s to vitiate the atmosphere in the state and also supported Sarbat Khalsa at Chabba.

Chugh said that instead of Bargari incident what needs to be included in Punjab syllabus was the unfortunate incidents that happened during November 1984 in Delhi and elsewhere killing more than three thousand Sikhs. He reminded that hundreds of Gurdwaras, schools and colleges were burnt and damaged by the mob led by many Congress leaders.

He warned Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to rein his party leaders for raising undue and unfair demands. He said if the Chief Minister failed to do so, the people of the state won't tolerate such leaders.
